Welcome To Observable

I've spent over a decade leading data teams across organizations like Google, YouTube, and now Tines. Despite that, I very much see data and analytics as a means to an end - a way of uncovering and making better decisions, and continuously improving the world around us.

Observable is my attempt to share the insights I've picked up along the way, both in my professional life and beyond. You'll find:

  • Deep dives into data leadership and analytics strategy
  • Practical advice on building and scaling data teams
  • Personal experiences and observations from the real world
  • Random thoughts that probably shouldn't see daylight

Why "Observable"? In data science, an observable is something we can measure and analyze. But more broadly, it's about the practice of noticing - the patterns, connections, and insights that emerge when you look closely enough. This blog aims to share what I've noticed, whether that's in the data world or elsewhere.

Some posts will dive deep into the challenges of data leadership. Others might explore unexpected parallels between seemingly unrelated domains. I'll try to keep it interesting, occasionally useful, and hopefully not too self-indulgent.
